Lakhta Center is a social business complex under construction, the main object of which will be the headquarters of the Russian energy company Gazprom. The complex includes an 87-storey skyscraper and a multifunctional building.
The idea of building this unusual object came in 2011. The main investor and initiator of the project is the Gazprom group of companies. The construction began in 2014, and an interior design project was created that will be made in a futuristic style in 2014.
The cost of construction is 1.77 billion dollars
There were many sceptical speeches in the history of the construction of the Lakhta Center. The project was called dangerous for the environment. There were those who warned that in the event of the fall of the Lakhta Center tower towards the Gulf of Finland, the wave would wash away the stadium on Krestovsky Island.
The super strong clay lies at a depth of 30 meters and it allows lay the most solid foundation. The construction is resistant to earthquakes and withstands even shocks of 6 on the Richter magnitude scale, which means the building will be secure and safe.
Multifunctional Social and Business Center will include:
- The Tower with a height of 462 meters
- A multifunctional building with an atrium
- Jetty aquabus
- Covered pedestrian bridge to the park of the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg
- Indoor parking
- Amphitheatre for 2000 viewers to watch water shows
- Children’s educational centre “World of Science”
- A balloon-shaped planetarium of 16 meters in diameter for up to 100 people
- Congress Center with a transforming hall and a multiplex cinema
- Cafes and restaurants
- Shopping centres

- Sports centre
And of course, the headquarters of the state concern Gazprom, whose offices will occupy 40% of the area.
The total area is 400 thousand square meters
The Lakhta Tower will have:
- two-level panoramic restaurant with a 360-degree view
- observation deck – view of the city from a height of 360 meters
- multi-functional elevators: express shuttle to the observation platform, express to the middle and upper zones, elevators of the lower, middle and upper zones
Many sceptical citizens have fears that with a strong wind the tower spire will lurch strongly. However, the builders calculated that the maximum possible deviation of the spire is 1.5 meters, and at the level of the observation deck – only 27 centimetres. People usually don’t notice it.
Lakhta Center was built on the migration path of bird flocks. They can be disoriented by the bright light of glass and mirror facades. There were frequent observations of the life of birds in the area of construction, and ornithologists haven’t found any danger to birds.
Glass is not an easy material for such a high structure, but everything is thought out: a special depot for servicing the facade is provided. There are special forklifts and a big team of washers who will be engaged in cleaning dirty and replacing damaged glass.
The clever system of a garbage disposal will be unique in Lakhta Center. The waste will be delivered to a special elevator and sent to the technical floor, where it will be shredded and pressed. The cleaning system of the building is similar to the space system – it allows you to keep the room clean, to avoid the invasion of rodents and insects.
Lakhta skyscraper is the northernmost in the world and the highest in Europe. In absolute height, it will have second highest, behind the 540-meter Ostankino television tower in Moscow.
The exact opening date of the tower has not been named yet, but it is known that the list of tenants will be compiled by the spring of 2019.
The observation deck will be open by the end of 2019. Guided tours will be conducted for groups of 50 people. Lifting to the observation deck, they will be able to see the panorama of St. Petersburg.
